Elections

Elections are coming up for Guatemala... 9/11.

The first round of the elections are on September 11th ... they call it the "falling of the two towers," - the president and his wife. HORRIBLE.

Here in Guatemala a president is allowed only to stay in office one term, 4 years. The current president apparently is a horrible man and his wife is just as terrible. They divorced so she could run for president - WOW. Luckily, the government would not allow her to run.

After the first round of elections comes the second round in November that will be between the two finalists ...

It is a cool time to be in Guatemala, but also a little crazy. The days are filled with strikes and rallies, and the nights are filled with parties and more rallies. Music is played until late, fireworks are everywhere and people are out and about cheering for their personal favorite party.
The weekends are dedicated to people holding and waving flags for their party, and parades surrounding every street.
The 'running of the torches' has already begun and represents Independence Day - Sept 15th.
*People literally running behind a truck with music, holding torches - literally.

On another note, I LOVE Independence Day here, the BEST street food comes out, people are everywhere and music is loud. STREET FOOD ALLLLLL DAY. I can't wait.

Outside, Where the Sun Shines

Life is going good right now.
Had a few set backs and a tough couple of weeks, but things are really starting to get on track. My place is beginning to really feel like my own. *no curtains to date still*

The weather here is AWESOME. We have been very lucky this rainy season, as opposed to last year when Tropical Storm Agtha hit, right after Volcan Pacaya Erupted.
Even though it is rainy season, I haven't had to wear my rain boots all that much....insert sad face.

Every morning I wake up to chilly weather, so I decide on jeans or tights, and a top .... then by 10am it is HOT outside and I usually regret wearing what I am in. I should really start to bring more clothes with me to work. An extra pair of shorts and short-sleeved shirt. NO LONG SLEEVE PLEASE ...

BUT, then by 5pm when I am almost out of the door, it begins to chill back down. I again am happy to be in jeans or a sweater. The rest of the night feels great.

Good things in the air....
