The great thing about Antigua is the amazing people you meet. The worst thing about Antigua is how quickly people come and go.
I have become really good at making friends and saying good-bye shortly after, throughout my years, since I have been moving my whole life. It just really sucks when you make good friends, and they leave you. I am use to the other way around, it is much easier. I just want to have friends, good - true friends, that are going to be staying as long as I am!!!
I lost a great friend back in November, another one in December. I came back to Antigua after a month -long vacation with the folks in December/January, hoping to meet a good group of people to hang out with.
I did.
But just said good-bye to two more a couple of weeks ago, and another close friend Monday. I will expect to say bye to 2 more before the end of summer ... sometimes I feel so alone.
I guess, I have to accept this is the way of life here. boooooo

Lent and more
Lent ... several weeks ago this holiday began. People started giving up things that they felt attached with, or powerless over. Examples - chocolate, beer, meat, sugar, etc. I don´t celebrate this holiday, but good for those that do! You are super strong!
Since living in Antigua, mostly Catholic religion, I have learned a lot about holidays and I have seen my fair share of toys, drums, candy, masks, dances, and more - celebrating someone´s birthday or day of ..... (something)!
This time, lent started it all. Ever since this day, every Sunday- EVERY SUNDAY Antigua is flooded with people from the city and the outskirts marching together with matching outfits and holding Jesus. =procession It is actually a sight to see if you have never seen anything like it before. There are about 40-50 people carrying this huge platform with a fake Jesus on it, filled with flowers and other decorations that they clearly have made by hand. There are lights, and music (a band walks behind playing music), movements and people just standing around staring - it is beautiful. The interesting thing about this is Jesus sways back and forth while walking around town. I am not sure why yet, but it looks cool. So there are 40 or so children (usually) carrying this thing on their shoulders, while 10-15 are underneath moving the thing back and forth in a swaying motion. They also line the kids tallest to shortest, so it looks as though Jesus is on a slant, standing up!
*Side note...Eveyone from the city comes to Antigua every weekend beginning on Friday anyway and stays until Sunday night. So every weekend Antigua is PACKED with people. So this whole Lent holiday leading up to Semana Santa has been hell. I like people, but there are soooo many people every weekend. And every Sunday night you don´t leave your house or try to walk across town because you get stuck in the procession and it takes you an extra 20 min to walk anywhere. Sundays suck! :)
The week before Semana Santa (holy week) has been crazy here. People are everywhere, bands are marching through town, people following the bands. So if you are walking and see a group of people together - you do your best to avoid it with all costs. Usually you get stuck somehow though. Antigua is not that big, and the groups of people with instruments are HUGE.
I even heard a band marching until 3am in the morning last week. If this is what it is going to be like during Holy Week, I am not looking forward to this...

Dog Watch
I was asked by my previous boss at Monoloco if I could watch his dog while him and his wife went to the states for about a week. I was so excited, I have been wanting a dog for a really long time and I figured this would be a good step for me.
1. This will give me an opportunity to feel like I have my own dog for some time
2. I will see what it is like to walk and feed a dog - basically to think about someone other than myself (or bf)
I love dogs, well ... I love puppies or dogs that I know.
Needless to say, I was thrilled.
7 days later, lessons learned:
1. I don't want my own dog!!
2. Holy crap, dogs are needy!
3. When leaving you have to think about the dog. What are you going to do with it, how will it be walked or feed, etc
4. I prefer that my boyfriend get a dog, and I reap all of the benefits of him having one! haha
5. I need a puppy Lesson learned, never dog watch again. (just kidding)
*On a side note, went to the market the other day and could have bought a puppy for Q36 or a kitten for Q16. Like a couple of bucks.
Really had to think hard about not buying the kitten. :)

Life Update
Life has been pretty amazing actually for the last couple of weeks ... update here we go. 1. Not working at night has been amazing. I have really enjoyed coming home and either cooking or ordering delivery! Watching tv/movies, and going to bed at a decent hour. 2. Much more sleep lately. I wake up feeling refreshed and happy to begin the day. I have started going to bed between 10:30-11:30pm most nights! This is new and exciting for me! 3. I have taken up reading again. Currently reading "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo." 4. I have been going to the gym more, well, a little more. I hurt myself somehow and I am dealing with a lot of pain in my back all the way to my feet. I saw a doctor and she said I inflammed my Sciatic Nerve. So currently on anti-inflammatory meds for the next 5 days. Cross your fingers it works! Still trying to stregthen and gain more flexilibity back in my hips and legs in the meantime. 5. Leading more outdoor trips since I have more time! I love my job!!!!!! Life is good. Weather is hot.
